¿Cuál es tu estado civil?

ree

Remember that in Spanish, words have a gender. The GENERAL rule says that masculine nouns end in "o" and feminine nouns end in "a". This rule does not apply to every case, but for this vocabulary, it does. So, to answer the question about your marital status, you can say:

👨‍🦱The masculine case

Soy / Estoy soltero

Estoy comprometido

Soy / Estoy casado

Soy / Estoy separado

Soy / Estoy divorciado

Soy viudo

Vivo en unión libre

👩‍🦰The feminine case

Soy / Estoy soltera

Estoy comprometida

Soy / Estoy casada

Soy / Estoy separada

Soy / Estoy divorciada

Soy viuda

Vivo en unión libre

🙃Question.

Why do we say "ESTOY comprometido (a)" instead of "SOY comprometido (a)? It is more common for native speakers to say “ESTOY comprometido(a)” instead of “SOY comprometido(a)” to talk about their marital status. In Spanish, we can say "soy comprometido (a)" to express that we are committed, dedicated, and responsible with our things. For example, Soy comprometido con mis estudios (it means you are committed to your studies). If you want to use "SOY" to talk about your marital status, you might say "Soy un hombre comprometido" or "Soy una mujer comprometida" in relationship contexts.

🙃Reminders

📌Remember that when we say "soy" or "estoy" we are talking about ourselves. They are equivalent to "I am" in English.

📌_Soy / Estoy_ means you can use "Soy" or "Estoy". For example: "Soy soltero(a)" or "Estoy soltero (a)."

📌"Vivo en unión libre" is the same for masculine and feminine genders.

TIPS TO LEARN VOCABULARY. Learning highly-used vocabulary is essential because words are the building blocks of language and allow us to communicate. Here you go, my tips:

1. Study by creating associations between the word and the image or object it represents. For example, if you want to learn that "bottle" is "botella," imagine a bottle or look at a picture of one while studying.

2. Search for the new word's pronunciation on the internet. This will allow you to become familiar with the sound of the language.

3. Write sentences using the new word (or expression). This exercise will help you understand the context and how to use it. You can ask an AI to suggest some sentences and then write them down by hand in a notebook.

4. Read the sentences aloud to reinforce listening and pronunciation skills.
